Lon Las Cymru 2025 – Four Days. 260 miles. One Unforgettable Adventure.

Lon Las Cymru, where challenge meets community, and every mile makes a difference.

This August, our riders took on the length of Wales on Lon Las Cymru, a route famous for its relentless climbs, sweeping descents, and breath-taking landscapes that make every drop of sweat worth it. From Holyhead’s coastline to the finish line in Cardiff, our team built friendships, shared stories, and pedalled every mile for MS. Managed to raise an incredible £13,500 for people living with MS.

The Start of Something Special

The ride began the way all Bike the UK for MS adventures do, with a room full of strangers who quickly became a family. Orientation night in Holyhead was filled with introductions, laughter, and a few nerves. Riders opened up about their reasons for joining, sharing powerful and personal stories.

By morning, everyone was in their fresh 2025 jerseys and ready to roll.

As Archie later reflected: “This trip has definitely been memorable with those hills, but for me, it was the people that made it all worth it. Thank you to everyone who kept me company on and off the bike, you make the time fly.”

Climbs, Headwinds, and the Strength of Togetherness

Worth it!

Lon Las Cymru is no easy ride, and this year it came with heat, headwinds, and hills that looked almost vertical at times. Day two alone featured a brutal 20% climb that left legs burning and pushed riders to their limits. But at the summit, sweeping views across Wales made every pedal stroke worth it.

Yet even in the toughest moments, team spirit carried them forward. Riders regrouped to share snacks, pushed through headwinds together, and cheered each other up hills.

As Barry summed it up:

“I don’t think that at any time did I feel that I wasn’t going to finish it and enjoyed every bit of it. My fellow riders and the support staff were unbelievably fantastic. They are what made this ride.”

There was plenty of joy along the way too: from our fair share of rest stop chats, and an impromptu sea swim, to Mike’s ongoing “ice cream tour of Wales.”

Why Every Mile of Lon Las Cymru Matters

Beyond the hills and headwinds, it was the people we met along the way who gave the ride a deeper meaning.

One of the most impactful parts of the Lon Las Cymru ride came at our MS group meet-ups. At the Fron Gosh Garden Centre, riders spent hours chatting with members of the Gwynedd & Anglesey MS Society. Stories and experiences flowed, from memories of past Bike the UK for MS teams to a woman proudly showing off her new adaptive bike that had given her freedom and independence.

These conversations reminded riders why every mile matters.

One of our Bike the UK for MS alumni PJ put it best: “The mental and physical value of these few days is better than any medication I can take to handle this stupid thing called MS”

Bumps in the Road

Of course, no adventure is complete without a few unexpected twists along the way.

A support van broke down and had to be hotwired with a screwdriver. A route leader accidentally drove 20 miles away with someone else’s car keys, resulting in him having to bike all the way back to return them. And in true comic timing, Will managed to complete almost the entire route before taking a tumble while turning into the park 5 miles away from the finishing point.

These hiccups only added to the memories, with every setback becoming a story to laugh about later.

Lon Las Cymru is an Achievement to be Proud Of

The final morning began with McDonald’s breakfasts and heavy legs, but the excitement of the finish line carried the team south. Families and Thomas from the Cardiff and Vale MS group gathered to cheer as the riders rolled in together. There were hugs, group photos, and, fittingly, one last round of ice creams.

One rider reflected on what the achievement meant:

“It has been a joy to ride with you all in aid of this amazing charity. Your efforts, both physical and fundraising, mean so much to those affected by MS. I hope the knowledge of the difference they will make, dulls the pain of some of those hills!”

More Than Just a Ride

But the finish line wasn’t really the end. Lon Las Cymru was far more than just cycling across Wales. It was about friendships, community and making a difference together. For a short trip, the strong bond that formed within the team was rare and powerful. With riders supporting each other through highs and lows, creating connections that will last long beyond the finish line.

And the impact stretches even further. With donations pouring in before, during, and after the Lon Las Cymru ride, the team collectively raised £13,500 to support people living with MS.

Chris summed it up best: “At the end of it we have managed to raise a hell of a lot of money for a great cause. The last few days were really enjoyable… and as a result there could very well be a next time!”
